Tired. Happy. Educated. Blessed.

I believe those four words describe best my status as of the moment. I am tired of all the things that I have to deal with. A big part of my time is being consumed by all the things that I have to settle in our (my angel and I) would-be haven. The most recent canvassing that I have done is of the glass doors and windows. Indeed, it is tiring - both physically and mentally.

Nevertheless, I am very much happy, as I am seeing the fruits of my hardwork. I can proudly point out to anybody that this is our home, and I am 100% hands-on with its construction. The excitement of living in this house provides undefinable joy in my heart. ♥ I'm simply H-A-P-P-Y.

Educated. Before, I am so naive almost about anything when it comes to house construction. But now, I have the bragging rights to converse about it. Moreover, I can even point out which supplier provides the lowest cost at the highest quality. *wink*

Anyway, our house construction is at its 80% completion already. Most likely, my next few days would be indulged at searching for fine furniture that will suit our home style and will provide comfort at the maximum. I am currently looking into Cymax and see if I could have a great find. I've heard that it is one of the world's Top 500 online business by Internet Retailer. Seems like their site is very user-friendly that I could browse over their items easily and conveniently. Hmmm, why haven't I heard about this before?

But since I am a bit tired now, I have to park and take a break. Will have to meet my Stradcom friends in a while to celebrate my birthday. Weeeeeeee... Oh boy, I'm already 30 years young! Thank you Lord for all the blessings! Indeed, I am so much BLESSED!

Miss me? I know I somewhat abandoned this blog for not-so-long time. It's not that I have nothing interesting to share. There's a lot actually. But time does not permit me to do so. There are some more important things that I have to attend to than sharing my unrevealed thoughts to you. Can't believe that my last personal post is about two months back. *sigh*

Anyway, before you have that drum roll, put the red carpet on, and shower me with those confetti; don’t rejoice that much as I am not that back yet, really. Let's just say, I had this rare opportunity to steal a moment and reach out to you.

NBA Coors Light Pop-A-Shot hails new champion

The NBA arcade basketball game that has been taking Metro Manila watering holes by storm has a new champion.

Vincent Gaita, 29, a field engineer in a telecommunications firm, outshot the 35 best shooters from seven bar destinations all over Metro Manila to cop the 2011 NBA Coors Light Pop-A-Shot Challenge title. No less than NBA Legend and 10-Time All Star Clyde Drexler (who was in town for NBA Madness 2011 and the Finals of the Coors Pop-A-Shot Tour) witnessed the changing of the guards.

The beautiful dancers of the Portland Trailblazers and the Orlando Magic were also on hand at the Metrowalk in Pasig to witness the shootout and cheer on the winners to give it their all.

Working on a Graveyard Shift

That is the last thing I would prefer for a job - working on a graveyard shift. I know the sacrifices I have to make, and those were the things I would never give up in exchange of a good paying job. No offense to those whose jobs required to have such work shift.

But a month ago, due to unavoidable circumstances, I ~~am forced to~~ work on a graveyard shift (9PM to 6AM). I have to say 'yes' for that will only last for a month for knowledge transfer since the persons whom I'll be working with were all based in New York. Well, I could have lessen the shift for a week if only I agree on a temporary onshore assignment. But I know my priorities, so even if it means being able to be in 'The Big Apple' for three (3) months, I said 'no'.

Just like Ricardo Reyes, the Filipino busboy-You Tube sensation from Los Angeles who beat NBA superstars in the arcade game of Pop-A-Shot, Raul De Leon of Marikina City has turned out to be the man to beat in the ongoing Coors Light NBA Pop-A-Shot Tournament 2011 in Manila over the weekend.

De Leon, 49, who works at a pest control agency, set a local Pop-A-Shot record high of 563 at the second leg of the 2011 Coors NBA Pop-A-Shot competition at Blue Onion Bar in Eastwood, Libis, Quezon City last weekend. The score is the highest in this year’s tournament so far, and even higher than last year’s Coors Light NBA Pop-A-Shot championship score of 457.

With a cyclical work schedule that I have at the moment, sleeping seems to be a problem for me; most especially that our weather is at its extremes – a moment of hot summer then suddenly a freezing rainy one. But as much as possible, I needed at least five or six hours of sound sleep.

How am I going to deal with this dilemma? I’d resort to a high efficiency furnace from Trane. Well, for Trane, it is creating a perfect environment such as a cool breeze on a hot summer day or a cozy, bright space in the dead of winter. And I believe it could lull myself into a sound sleep with its durable materials; hence, high quality products.

Need I say more? This is definitely what I needed for a sound sleep.

In My Mid-Third Week

Yes. I, myself, am a little surprised about it. But this is for real. I am currently in the middle of my third week in my new job. I’m not saying that it is unbelievable that I had toiled working again. Of course not, it is not a hard-to-believe-news; unlike having a Beverly Hills breast augmentation. Yes, the latter is something not so me. But what I’m pointing out here is that, time do flies too fast. I can’t even pace with it, ha ha.

Anyway, the thing that struck me the most in my new job is this almost cliché-ic conversation that I used to have in almost everyone in the office:

Colleague 1: Hi! You’re new here?
Me: Hello! Yes, it’s my first week.
Colleague 1: So, what language were you using? Java?
Me: No. PowerBuilder.
Colleague 1: (With amazement) What’s PowerBuilder?
Me: (Confused on how to explain it) Hmmm, it’s like Visual Basic.

Souvenir Reflects Your Kind of Company

As a runner, reaching the finish line each time is truly rewarding. No matter what distance you participated in, and even if you are injured at the finish line, it is still a successful feeling putting your right foot across that line. As a souvenir, runners are given with loot bags that contain a little something for you to remember your run and all your experiences bundled with it. Most of the time, I get baller IDs; sometimes, I get button badges.

Looking through this souvenir items, there are those manufactured in poor quality. Sad to say, I get rid of them either by giving it or throwing it away. On the other hand, there are those that are of high quality that I even display it on our display cabinet.

As for me, these souvenir items which, of course, has the name of the company embossed or engraved or just printed in them reflects the type of product that company has to offer. No offense to those who does not look at it this way. But yes, these items are reflections of the type of company you are.

A Filipina Established a New World Record for the NBA FIT Challenge

The NBA Fit had been a rewarding success to all the organizers. A bountiful appreciation to the NBA Fit ambassador, Coach Erik Spoelstra, who spearheaded the activity. And though it has already been concluded last August 7, NBA Fit had left the Filipinos continually aiming to have a healthier lifestyle. Not only that, they also made Filipinos proud for we had established a new world record in the NBA Fit challenge. See the pictures for yourself and be proud of being a Filipino.

Lyceum Lady Pirate Francemae Cabinbin bested all competition at the NBA FIT Challenge held at the SM Mall of Asia Music Hall on August 6. The 19-year old business administration student from the Lyceum of the Philippines University established an NBA FIT world record by clocking in at 38.46 seconds upon completing all the stations. The NBA FIT Challenge is part of the NBA FIT program, the global comprehensive health and wellness program of the National Basketball Association.

Lunch With My Stradcom Friends

This is one of the many backlog blogposts that I should have written about two months ago. But I have been enjoying too much of my "bum days" that I become lazy writing one. Anyhow, I'm slowly coming back *wink*

A few days after I arrived home, I had an appointment with my former company, Stradcom Corporation. Basically, it was to attend to some unfinished business - my backpay *woot*.

Sidestory

Before heading on to Stradcom, I had gone by an IT Company at West Avenue for an exam. Actually, I was texted by the said company while I was still in Singapore. But since I can't make it on the date they requested, we had moved it to a later date.

Honestly, I was not impressed with the company's surroundings. At the same time, I also am in frown upon hearing the radio station that they were listening to - Nicole Hyala. No offense to her fans, but I don't find her way of radio entertainment appealing. I find it as noise.

I had three Patron tickets to the NBA FIT Development Camp Presented by Gatorade last Friday, August 5, 2011. Unfortunately, I had a number of activities to attend to that made me miss this event. *sigh* Here are a few of those things that passed my by:

Miami Heat Coach Erik Spoelstra took his NBA FIT commitment one notch higher by leading the NBA FIT Development Camp for elite athletes and coaches as part of the 14-day NBA FIT Philippines 2011 program. The Development Camp was conducted with the Energen Philippine Under-16 National Team that is preparing for the SEABA Qualifiers for the FIBA-Asia Under-16 Championships in October. 400 coaches from grade schools, high schoosl, colleges and professional teams observed the proceedings and interacted with Coach Spo and his assistant coaches Dave Fizdale and Chad Cammerer after the camp. .This weekend (August 6 and 7), Coach Spo gets the general public involved in NBA FIT with health and fitness activities at the SM Mall of Asia Music Hall. Starting Monday, I’ll be entering a new world. Yes, I finally landed on a day job. Where? That I wanted to remain as classified. But no, that’s not in the California cosmetic surgeon company. That’s not my field.

While contemplating (okay, I’m exaggerating), I am thinking of the things that I would be missing come I am already regularly going to work. Of course, I would fail to send and fetch my niece from school every day. But I do hope to catch up with what she’s been learning from school. At the same sense, I do hope that she’d be diligent in her studies and not indulge too much with Barbie cartoons. It seems to allow her to be in the know to fashion and how to be beautiful. Oh, the last thing that I would want to hear is that she would love to have a tummy tuck in Beverly Hills. That would really put me in terrible shock. On the other hand, I know that these cartoons do provide positive learning to contribute to a child’s well-being.

Club PK and their Noble Deeds

I was invited to an event dubbed as PD Alliance in Motion in Filipinas Heritage Library, Makati City. As I read the invite, I've seen that it is about a cross-country vaccination drive against the deadly pneumococcal disease (PD) through the help of of the renowned motorcycle group, Club PK, and Pfizer. The information at hand stopped there. First, I am really not that aware about the PD. Second, I am really not into these motorcycle group thingy. I'm more of a runner. But their noble deeds triggered my enthusiasm to partake at the event and be informed of what is it all about.

Once more Erik Spoelstra, Filipino-American Miami Heat head coach, visited the country to lead the NBA Fit Philippines to promote health and wellness. In the middle of NBA Fit's two-week activities, he graced a press conference at the New World Hotel, Makati City this morning to answer questions from the media. I would really want to ask him if he is open at coaching Team Pilipinas (Smart Gilas); but was unfortunate to throw a question.

Someone from the media asked a question regarding Coach Spoelstra's thoughts in the recent NBA Championship where they lost against the Dallas Mavericks. And here's his humble response:

It’s been raining hard since the wee hours today. Not to mention about the earthquake around 1:15am. Yes, I felt the tremble; I even thought that I am just dizzy for not being able to sleep yet at that time. The weather is so inviting to be lazy, but I got to get up and do some errands. Everything is set to go, my bag is packed; but I just can’t because the rain hasn’t stopped yet. Time’s like this, I wish I had a car of my own; and that I know how to drive. *grin*

Given a chance that I could pick a car of my own, disregarding the price, I’d love to have a Honda CR-V.

Last Tuesday, after attending to an afternoon appointment, I headed on to TriNoMa to meet my highschool BFFs - Susie and Men.

Since I'm a bit early, I simply enjoyed the free WiFi at the mall's foodcourt. Then I wander around to kill time. We almost cancelled our dinner date due to flood.

Back when I was still studying, I am an achiever. I always strive hard to be on top. But I guess there's always a desire deep within me to go further. And that made me admire those youth who were able to compete internationally (as I had only competed nationally) and those that were named as young scientist and inventors by the Department of Science and Technology (DOST). Somehow, I wanted that youth to be me. However, time, opportunity, nor fate was unable to brought me there. Nevertheless, I firmly believe in Filipino youth talents. That is why I am supporting the project of Unilab Laboratories, Inc. (UNILAB) dubbed as UNILAB Ideas Positive.

HotelwithHeart.com Extends its Pencil Project

I already registered myself with HotelwithHeart.com's Pencil Project (HWH Pencil Project) a few weeks ago. It is a digital signature campaign through the combined efforts of Dynamic Teen Company (DTC) and Hotelwithheart.com (HWH). The aim of this campaign is to raise 10,000 pencils to support DTC's "Kariton Klasrum Project". Through this endeavor, children in the slum areas will get a decent supply of pencils to help them learn the basics of writing, reading and arithmetic.

By signing up in their fanpage, HotelwithHeart.com will donate one pencil to DTC's "Kariton Klasrum Project". One successful digital signature is equivalent to one pencil and one happy child.

This is indeed a very noble campaign that I spare a few minutes of my time to sign up. I hope you do too as they had extended the project up to July 15, 2011.

Sprite Brings NBA 3-on-3 in the Philippines

Being one of the greatest basketball fans, NBA had chosen the Philippines to be part of their program aimed at promoting basketball amongst casual and competitive basketball fans around the world. This program, dubbed as NBA 3-on-3 Philippines 2011, is brought to us by Sprite and is open to boys and girls of all skill levels from the ages of 11 – 19, with an open division for men, and based on FIBA 3on3 format and rules. And since this event promised at providing the participants and fans with the total NBA experience, they are bringing along Horace Grant and the New York Knick Dancers!

Earlier, a press conference was held at Marriott Manila Hotel. Luckily, I was able to squeeze in and be invited as media. Everybody knows that I'm a huge basketball fan. We even celebrated Dallas Mavericks Championship right? So, even alone, I head on to the venue and is with much delight knowing that I'll be seeing a 4-time NBA champion who had played alongside Michael Jordan.

The media were given the chance to throw in questions. With much courage, I raise my hand and asked Horace Grant, "Which do you prefer, playing alongside Michale Jordan; or playing against him?"

As expected, he choses to play alongside MJ; but his reason behind his answer made me admire MJ all the more. In a nutshell, he explained that playing alongside MJ enabled him to know more about himself - that he can do things which he did not expect he can.

There are a number of questions thrown at him and the NY Knicks Dancers together with Michelle Harriss. But those that made a mark on my memory are:

If he would choose his teammates to play 3-on-3 against Miami Heat's Big 3, he'll choose Michael Jordan and the Black Mamba, and they'll kick ~~ass~~!
His thoughts on Dallas Mavericks as compared to Chicago Bulls (his time), a very confident "Dallas won't have a chance"
Which is the better duo, Michael Jordan and Scottie Pippen or Kobe Bryant and Shaquille O'Neal, definitely MJ and Pippen simply because Shaq can't shoot his free throws.

He is also asked what is the ring that he's wearing. He said that it was his second championship ring (Calling LBJ, he got a ring, LOL!). Then he showed off his four championship rings and the media are given the chance to take a picture of it. Unfortunately, I am no photography expert; at the same time, I had not bring along my photographer with me; hence, please bear with the pictures I was able to take.

After the question and answer, picture taking commenced. I tried to find a perfect place to take pictures, but it was an epic fail.

There's Just No Place Like Home

Though this is an over-used phrase, I will say it over and over again - "There's just no place like HOME."

This is a month-late post, I know. But that unique feeling of being at home had subdued me. Therefore, this just deserved a blog post. Read on!

After 180 days of hardwork (well, not really, *grin*), I will be able to say that I'm finally home. But before that, it is just fitting to thank the Lord for all the blessings and for continually guiding me all the way. Hence, I drop by St. Joseph's Church (Bukit Timah) to say my praise and thanks. Unfortunately, the church is closed and is having renovations; thus, I proceed to its adoration chapel.

I haven't uttered a word. I just sat there. Stare at Him. Then suddenly, tears fell down my cheeks and I just can't stop it from flowing. This is the day when I can hug my mother for real. This is the most awaited moment when I can kiss my dear niece in the real world.

I hurriedly proceed to the airport - then I felt heaven. Happiness is an understatement to describe what I feel at that very moment.

My family (less my sister because I had already spent my Chinese New Year with her at Singapore) and I spent a week at SG for a little vacation. As expected, we were not able to follow our itinerary. But it's okay. I could spend that seven (7) days of vacation just at home, with my family. Home need not necessarily be a house, what matters is when you are with your family.

Now, I will not story-tell our 7-day adventure; but, I would gladly share pictures we had - showcasing what happiness really means.

I never thought that there will still be "adjustment" period for me as I come back home. Maybe I just missed being home that I don't want to do anything. Yeah, exactly like Bruno Mars' Lazy Song! But slowly, I'm coming back. So, lemme share something.

It always fascinates me each time I could see a people on scrubs medical uniforms. I just felt like they are in their most comfortable clothes (matching with rubber shoes) while performing their job. Yes, I’m a shirt, jeans, and rubber shoes person. I don’t want to dress up to please people; I just wanted to make myself comfortable. Like these people in the medical field. But don’t get me wrong, being a medical practitioner never pass my mind – as always – I’m a programmer by heart.

And here’s another interesting fact, there are also surgical scrub of different designs. I happen to stumble by this online shop that offers executive, urban, and sport collection scrubs as I search on their category http://www.blueskyscrubs.com/categories/Scrubs/. No, I won’t be availing one, it just interests me to know these stuff. I take a peak to their sports collection hoping to find something “Boston Celtics” there, but I failed, ha ha. Why should I expect an NBA collectible there in the first place?

Speaking of NBA, have you watched Game 2 of the Finals? I can’t help myself but admire Dallas’ composure despite being behind 15 big points. At first I thought it’s already 2-0 for Miami. But with just a matter of minutes, the ball game is tied. And Nowitzki clinched the game-winning basket. A very nice game indeed. Ah, can’t wait to watch Game 3!

The Lord is My Shepherd

A lot of friends were trying to convince me to stay a li'l longer here in Singapore; but my firm answer is NO. Six (6) months. That is just what I had planned. Even the company that I am staying with is trying to make me stay by offering me encouraging packages - even permanent position. But none of them made me stay. I just wanna go home and spend the rest of my life in the Philippines with my family and with my angel.

If someone would ask me if I regret working here in Singapore; honestly, I don't know what to say. If I could turn back time, I don't know if I'll be having the same decision/plans again. But on the other hand, I am glad that there had been a lot of learning experiences that I had here; which makes me think, my 6 months of stay is worth it - for my growth as an individual, especially in my spiritual being.

I guess I just find myself having God as my sole companion whenever I feel that homesickness thingy. I don't know but merely singing songs of praise for Him most of the time brought forth a tear that's falling on my cheeks. I am just feeling that gladness in my heart that despite being a sinner, He still loves me and continuously blesses me. Even singing The Lord's Prayer burns my heart with gratefulness.

One of my goals before leaving Singapore is to visit all of the Catholic Churches here. I still got seven (7) to go. I don't know if I can reach that goal, or have an unfinished business here. But somehow, I am glad that I was able to visit a new one yesterday at Pasir Ris - Church of Divine Mercy.

It is just five (5) bus stops away from where I am staying worth less than an hour of travel (Woodlands to Pasir Ris). Upon entering, I am welcomed by this one, with flowing water beneath it.

The Holy Mass focuses on "The Lord is My Shepherd" ~ Psalm 23. It perfectly fits what I had experienced (and is still experiencing). And yes, my gladdened heart simply know how to spark that tear from my lachrymose glands.

I am also fortunate that I was able to witness the baptism of six children of God.

I am blessed. Praise be to God.

On the side note, for me, this is the most beautiful church that I had visited (so far) here in Singapore.

Singapore Memories

Truly, my almost six months (as of today) stay here in Singapore bring forth a number of fond memories (and some unfortunate events) that I will never forget. To wit:

My 18th (chuckle) Birthday

I remember I cried on my birthday. It was just my third day here and it makes me wanna go home. For the record, it is the first time that I had celebrated my birthday without my family around.

Look at those eyes and that fake smile. This is how I celebrated my birthday.

My Christmas

Well, my Christmas is another story. First, I had successfully completed the nine (9) evening masses (Simbang Gabi) and had met a new friend, Sharon.

I also felt that I had developed a deeper relationship with God. It feels like I had my God and I time whenever I attended Holy Mass.

Christmas is not tear jerky for I had visited a number of Singapore attractions with BurpRunner, which includes Jurong Bird Park, Marina Bay, Sentosa, Botanic Gardens, and Orchard.

My New Year

I cried at past midnight of January 01, 2011 for I had missed our annual (Manalaysay) New Year's Party. *sadness*

Good thing though, GELS went to SG, and we had so much F-U-N! I will never forget how we spent the wee hours talking about (insert subject here). Definitely, 24 hours is not enough!

Being a runner, I love being active. Thus, when my officemates planned on hiking at Bukit Timah Nature Reserve, I'm all IN. The hiking part is a breeze. It is of nothing compared to the Biodiversity Run 2010 at UPLB.

My Souvenir on May

I thought about it for a couple of times when I finally give in and register myself on the 2XU Compression Run 2011. I just thought I would want to have a souvenir (medal) of a run here. Thanks to ChickenLegs for pacing (picture mode) with me.

But I guess everything happens for a reason. See that shoes I am wearing? That is my LunarGlide. It is my angel's Christmas gift back 2009. Probably, God wanted me to run the 2XU run for I will be losing my shoes after a couple of weeks. Yes, someone STOLE my LunarGlide last April 25, 2011. I cried. But there's just no way I can bring it back. My fault. I just can't get over it. *insanity*

Twenty (20) days to go and I will be completing my Singapore Memories - to tour the country with my family. *can't wait*

A Blessed Holy Week

Happy Easter everyone! But I hope when you think of easter, you won't imagine the bunnies and the eggs. Easter is the topmost element of our faith as Christians; for Jesus Christ has resurrected to fulfill what has been written in the scriptures. Let me now share to you what are the activities that kept me busy during the Lenten Season.

Maundy Thursday is still a regular working day here at Singapore. So instead of having my Visita Iglesia on a thursday night like what my family and I used to do back in the Philippines; Clars and I had our Visita Iglesia on Good Friday. We had completed seven churches and ended our journey with a station of the cross followed by the Good Friday mass.

‎"Greater love has no one than this, that he lay down his life for his friends. You are my friends if you do what I command." ~ John 15:13-14

At night, I watched (for the nth time) 'The Passion of the Christ'. I can't stop my tears while watching. It is somewhat a continuation of the pondering on how much LOVE Jesus have for all of us that He undergone such passion just to save us all.

Today, Easter Sunday, Clars and I attended the Holy Mass. The celebrant then shares to us that by dying, Jesus had destroyed our death. And by rising, He restored our life. He also imparted to us that we should not be afraid to talk about death, and that we all should be ready. For death simply means that we all will be reunited with God in heaven. Hence, I am praying, that like Jesus while He was being scourged at the pillar, I could also tell God that 'My heart is ready.'

And lastly, I wanted to share this video forwarded to me by my angel. It is a good song. While I'm Waiting (to be reunited with God), I will serve Him.

Counting Down the Days

I started at 100. Now I’m down to 35. Thirty five more days to go and I’ll be with my family. I know I’ve been talking about this countdown so very often. Forgive me, but that’s what I am really looking forward to. If only I can pull the days to come forward, I will. But for now, I’ll be patiently waiting.

My ideas are overwhelming as on how to spend the days following my arrival. I would really want to celebrate the occasions that I missed one day at a time. So I guess I’ll start it by celebrating my birthday, ha ha. I would pig out with all the Filipino dishes that I’ve been craving – dinuguan, menudo, to mention a few.

Apart from the celebrations, of course I have to deal with the responsibilities that I left behind. One of which is building of our dream house where I will spend the rest of my life with my angel. We both know that it could be hard to dream big. But every big dream could become a reality by beginning with small single steps. If it’s God’s will, our goals will be within our reach. We already had the house plan duly signed by licensed engineers. Oh, remembering the process of having that house plan. We really look into details. Laminate Floor or tiles, sliding doors or not, windows, stairs orientation, and everything else. My angel and I look closely into it.

Okay, enough. That just makes me miss home so much. I have to park now and enjoy myself by watching a movie. Scheduled for today is Season of the Witch. Nicolas Cage, that is. See yah!

I have been missing a number of things since I set foot here at Singapore. The very first is the celebration of my birthday, followed by my brother's birthday, Christmas Day, New Year's Day, and the list goes on... Frankly, it is hard to spend those celebration without your family; hence, a big salute to the overseas Filipino workers (OFW). Really, I can't imagine how you were able to surpass that 'homesick' thingy.

Added on my list is the graduation of my niece, Stephanie. Not only that, she graduated with honors: a silver award and a best in writing award. She consistently gets that Best in Writing award. I am uberly proud of her.

I remember reviewing her one night via Yahoo Messenger's doodle for her exam in Math. I was so happy that she answered my questions perfectly - even after the examination.

*Deep breath* I promise, I won't be missing anymore important family celebration. In 55 days, I will be able to hug again my mother, my brother, my sister-in-law, and my niece. Seven days after that, I will be right back HOME.

Anyhow, congratulations Stephanie!!! Continue making your family proud. I love you.

Flowers Express Disappoints Me

A week before Valentine's Day, the sweetness in me urged me to send my mother flowers and my angel chocolates via Flowers Express in the Philippines. It was my first time to try out such e-commerce.

Happiness filled my spirit on Valentine's Day as my mother cannot describe the gladness in her heart as she received flowers from me. It was just exactly how I wanted it to be.

It is with that event that I become more excited as the chocolates that I had sent to my angel will be arriving in his office Friday of that week.

My order was three (3) Van Houten Chocolate Almonds in tin can. with the following message:

You are God's greatest gift to me. I honestly love you!

But to my dismay, no message landed the hands of my angel, and worse, he did not receive the 3 chocolate almonds that I ordered. Instead, he received this package:

It really frustrates me that I immediately called Flowers Express. But no one's answering the phone. It then lead me to sending them an email courteously asking what had happened. But after a week of waiting, I haven't received any attention from them. I followed up my inquiry and put in the signature my blog address (thinking it might startle them in some way). It does, and here's what I've got:

And guess what? Tomorrow is exactly a month since I heard something from them. They just kept me hanging. AND I AM SO MUCH DISAPPOINTED WITH THEIR SERVICE. If they only at least replied, I could have again use their service in the upcoming birthday of my mother. It is simply frustrating.

I know it won't really matter to them if I won't trust their service anymore. Their company and web presence is already established. And a low profile blogger like me won't do any harm in their business. But why am I blogging this? To let my friends know and think twice before placing an order with Flowers Express. It is like, ORDER AT YOUR OWN RISK. At the same time, I am still hopeful that via this sort of open letter, I could get an answer from them. I do hope so.

Welcome March! Be Fast!

That was my status as I changed the page of my calendar from February to March. Yes, I wanted March to be FAST! Believe it or not, from the day that I set foot here in Singapore, I am already having my countdown. It is exactly 76 days to go before I can finally hug my mother, my brother, my sister-in-law, and my niece. I am so excited!

God is so generous that he is really making March to come by so swiftly. I just can't believe it that I am already a week old here in my new crib.

I am now realizing why people kept on telling me that time is fast here in SG. My time is occupied by my work in the office (as of the moment). Back home, I just have to check my mail, Twitter, and Facebook. If time or mood permits, I will scribble my thoughts and have a blog post. At 10:30PM, I will lay down and make myself sleepy. Then, I will call it a day. The following morning, the same routine will happen. The next thing I know, a week had passed by already.

But sometimes, I am contemplating. Why does it feel that I had the luxury of time when I was in the Philippines? Those days when it is Monday, yet, I am wishing that it is already weekend (and vice versa). Both SG and PH has 24 hours per day, 7 days a week. But why am I feeling that SG time flies so fast? And in PH, time is something that you wanted to pull from being so slow.

Most probably, I am not looking forward to anything on weekends here. That's why it really never matter to me if I had to go out for work. At the same time, working for me means that I'll be coming back home anytime sooner. On the other hand, back in the PH, I am always looking forward at spending quality time with my family and with the love of my life. That's why I wanted the weekdays to be over and the weekends to be long.

Anyway, no matter what seem to be the logic of SG being a fast paced country, I am still happy that my countdown already reaches line of 7. Sooner, I'll be back home. But for now, I'll be singing this:

In order to update myself of Philippine news, it is my habit to read interesting news and stories in Yahoo Philippines.

Today, what struck me was the Lady Gaga and Lady Maria duet. A tear dropped from my eyes as I finished watching this video.

Maria is that lucky to have that very rare opportunity of singing on-stage with Lady Gaga; on the other side; Lady Gaga is very fortunate for having the chance to touch someone else’ heart. Aside from which, I love the message that is being conveyed by the song that they sung – Born This Way.

Another story that captured my attention was about a Filipino blogger in the pen name BryanBoy who stirs a fashion revolution. From doing his craft in web design, he had been invited to a number of fashion shows. Okay, let me rephrase it. He had been invited to a number of international fashion shows wherein his comments really matters. And I mean international. He had invites from Isabel Marant, Mugler, Balmain, AF Vandevorst, Gareth Pugh, Rochas, Damir Doma, Chanel, among others.

Tiring But Fruitful Weekend

The title of this post says it all. It has been a tiring weekend for me. Nonetheless, it is a very fruitful one.

I woke up early Saturday morning to prepare my things for I am moving out from the crib that sheltered me for three months. I never knew that it would be that tiring. From washing to ironing my clothes, cleaning my room, cooking my lunch, washing the dishes, and almost everything. I never had the chance to sleep nor nap.

After moving in to my new home and fixing my things to their new shelter, my housemates and I went to hear the 7:30PM Tagalog Mass nearby. Wonderfully, the Sunday gospel includes my favorite verse in the Bible:

"Look at the birds of the air; they do not sow or reap or store away in barns, and yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not much more valuable than they?"
~ Matthew 6:26

Next in the list is to buy some food in the grocery. After which, that's the only time that I was able to relax a bit and have some chat with my family and friends over the net. Then, we call it a day.

I did not find it that hard to sleep. I don't know, but I guess I am much comfortable to where I am now than before. Or most probably, it is because of God's blessing. Thanks be to God.

The following morning (that is today), I woke up at around 9 in the morning. Enjoyed a small chat with my housemates over a cup of Milo. Clars (my roommate) and I then prepared ourselves to went to Lucky Plaza. I bet you already knew what we did there. I also had to buy some personal stuff.

And to satisfy myself more, I did a 3.79KM walk with Clars around my new crib in 57 minutes.

I can still remember how badly I wanted to have a runner's version of Rajon Rondo's Nike Hyperfuse.

I'm Back

I’m back… and it really feels good to be back. Finally, I could have something to lessen, if not get rid of, this homesick thingy. Did someone miss me? I really got a lot of things in mind to blog about. And yes, I still got that weird behavior of blogging in my mind (if you know what I’m talking about).

Anyhow, let me start with something light. I don’t want this post to contain so much emotions, as I am “emotionally stressed” this past few days that I have been to the extremes.

It is exactly eighty four (84) days since I set my foot in this foreign land. And I am already beginning my countdown. It is exactly 98 more days to go and I’ll be having my family beside me once more. ***uberly excited***

Just The Way You Are

I know I haven’t been blogging much since I set my foot here in a foreign land. My apologies. I just need to catch up with a lot of things. I as well need to settle myself down. I’ve been here for 84 days and I must say I had observed a lot everyday.

A common observation is the way people here dress up. It seems like that they really don’t care at all. Wearing short shorts and short skirts is common for women. I could hardly see anyone wearing something that won’t show any skin. I can’t even remember seeing anyone wearing nursing scrubs. Well, back in the Philippines, it won’t last a day that I won’t see someone wearing one. Maybe, nursing is at boom in our country.

For office people, wearing uniform is not a must. Most probably because people here came from different nation and would really dress up differently. As for me, I did not embrace the local culture. I still wear what I am comfortable at wearing – slacks and blouse.

When I get back in my country, the place where I belong, I guess there won’t be any big difference in the way I dress up. Just the same old brand new me who prefers uniforms than dresses. I need not to change anyhow. Like what my favorite song tells, I prefer to be, “Just The Way You Are” (I Am).

I've been out from blogging for quite so long now. As much as possible, I have kept my silence for I never want any unwanted circumstances to come. And when finally all my plans had been granted by our good Lord, that's the time I can speak out.

I had a series of despedidas with my friends. The first one is a dinner at Mang Inasal at Robinson's Pulilan with my mother, my tita, and my tito.

At that moment, it is slowly sinking in to my senses that I will be missing all of them. And I had no idea how I can deal with it. But, I already made up my mind. I already made a decision. I know God will provide.

To continue, I had a sweet surprise from my fairy. And never losing count, this is my sixth. It is at Mr. Kurosawa, Eastwood.

The seventh was another surprise. It was unplanned. Special thanks to Marivic for the treat. I had a despedida with my NGCP friends (my angel's office buddies) at TGI Friday's at Trinoma. It was followed by a short chat over a cup of coffee and cheesecake at Starbucks.

With all those despedidas, I feel dearly loved. Yes, I cried. But there's a need for me to do this. I need to work here in Singapore for six months for something. I have my plans. And I hope my plans would turn into reality. I know God is with me. I put my faith in Him. So there, now you know what had been making me busy lately. I guess 'change' really is inevitable. I thought I will never work abroad and leave my family behind. But I'm already here. It is exactly a week already.

I arrived here at Singapore last Sunday. The day after, I already had to report for work. This country seemed to be very friendly with respect to geography. My close friends know that it is my weakness; but here in Singapore, I got to go to work and back home by my own on my second day. It is that easy. At the same time, I am overwhelmed by the number of Filipinos I met along the way. Not to mention that I had the dearest housemates. Well, I still got a number of things to say about Singapore and my stay here. But I am planning to create another blog for that, and I will call it Minnie Project. Watch out for that.

So, what's the sense of my blog post title with what I had just said? Earlier, while I was updating one of my social sites, I thought of adding "I Love Philippines" in my 'About Me' profile. Working here in Singapore allowed me to realize how much I love my country. I would not deny the fact that Singapore is a well developed country. Anyone would say that they would love to live here. Well, I do love to; but there has to be a condition - and that is, I should have my family and love ones with me. My family does not end with merely my mother and my siblings, it extends to my aunts, my uncles, my cousins, my in-laws, and the list goes on. I Love Philippines because it is my home. And yes, there's NO PLACE LIKE HOME.

New Blog... Again?

A new chapter of my life will begin a few days from now. And since I am a blogger, I am thinking of creating a new blog for my adventures. I am thinking of having a title “Minnie Project”. In is in reference to the Project 365 that I have been seeing in most of the blogs that I hopped. What do you think?

I don’t know if I’ll still be looking for another provider or simply settle with Blogger and have that long blogspot.com with my URL. But since I am frugal, I guess I’ll settle with Blogger. I’m not that serious blogger that wants to make money online anyway.

My Despedida Treat

Since I know that no one will blog about my despedida like what I did for pEDo and BurpRunner, I will blog my despedida myself, LOL! But before anything else, let me reveal that, yes, I AM FRUGAL, except of course when it comes to my angel ♥.

It feels like it is my last day today, so I decided to invite my friends for a lunch out. Supposedly, we would be having our lunch at Maguro, but pEDo requested to have it at Snackaroo. I don't know if the heaven is weeping or something 'coz the rain pour down heavily the moment when we were about to leave. But the rain does not stop us.

Last November 6, 2010 kick off the Joyful Christmas celebration of SM Supermalls nationwide. My angel and I attended the one held at SM City Marilao Center Atrium. The program started at 5:30PM. We're a bit late for we attended a birthday party at Pandi, Bulacan. Nevertheless we had witnessed the significant parts of the program.

And for the main menu of the night, Santa's Toy Factory was opened for the public. Here, SM City Marilao takes you inside the famed house up on the North Pole where toys are made! You can have a photo taken in Santa's favourite place in his home - by the fireplace where he makes his list and checks them twice.

And being a kid at heart and a Filipino who loves to take pictures, I took the opportunity to have one.

Okay, I have to correct myself on my line earlier. I guess opening of Santa's Toy Factory is not the main menu of the event. Gift-Giving to Kids of "KIDS AT HOME Orphanage", for me, is the start of the program. About 20 kids received early Christmas gifts from SM. Indeed, it is a Christmas season of joy and love; and that is what SM Supermalls proudly promotes.

After the gift-giving, a band composed of youngsters led us to one of the mall's entrance for the fireworks display.

As the count down reached zero, a Grand Fireworks Display signaled the onset of Christmas celebration at SM City Marilao. The sky is painted with colorful fireworks that made me smile.

Alright, I guess it’s time to reveal a secret. Soon, I’ll be leaving the company that I had served for more than three years. And I could not deny the fact that it had made me happy (Well, how could I stand three long years if I’m not right?). But there are just things that really have to end. More so, a lot of things changes. It’s inevitable.

Where am I headed to? I’m going someplace. Most of my closest friends already know it more than a month ago. But that I think deserves another blog post. Let me give you a hint instead.

I would be independent. For twenty eight years, I’ve never left home. I always loved to be at home with my family. That’s how close that we can get. But now, some situations required me to be independent. I’ll be moving in a new home, I’ll be living independently. And I guess my lifestyle would be simple. My things would be uncomplicated, except for the gadgets that I have won, of course. But I could consider rustic bedroom furniture for comfort. Definitely, my running shoes would come with me. Nevertheless, my heart will stay with my family and my angel.

That’s too much of a teaser. I will be posting more of this independence thingy soon.

Happy 4th Birthday Stephanie

It is Stephanie's (my brother's daughter) fourth birthday yesterday. We had a simple yet joyful celebration of her special day.

Before anything else, we drop by the adoration chapel of our parish to say a prayer and to thank God for all the wonderful blessing that He has bestowed upon our family; and of course, we thank Him for another year that He had given to our precious Stephanie.

And although we already visited my father's tomb last All Saints Day, we again drop by the cemetery to lit candles and utter a prayer.

Funny thing is (or shall I say creepy?), whenever we would ask Stephanie if she happened to see my father (his grandfather) or played with him, she'll say "YES". We even asked her to describe him and she'll amazingly answer correctly. And here's a conversation that made me really think:

Madz: Steph, eh ngayon, naglalaro pa kayo ni FG (my father)?
Steph: Hindi na, hindi ba patay na siya?
Madz: Ay oo nga pala, eh nung bata ka?
Steph: Oo naglalaro. Kelan ba siya nilibing?

Well, Stephanie was born four years ago; while my father died twelve years ago.

Our next stop is to buy Goldilocks cake for her. And since Goldilocks is situated inside Robinsons where there is Fun House, Stephanie grabbed the opportunity to enjoy her special day.

It's lunch time already, so we headed back home. And immediately, Stephanie wanted to blow the candle on her cake. So we let her after singing a Happy Birthday to her.

My mother cooked spaghetti, pansit, and chicken. We also had buko pandan and fruit salad. Unfortunately, I was not able to take photos of it.

All Saints Day

I stayed up late last night because I ~~played Plants vs Zombies~~ accompany my mother in doing some chores at home. We got home late after our ~~Halloween~~ Family Day of sort - doing the grocery and having dinner together at Jollibee.

This morning, I am supposedly visiting my father's tomb at night together with my brother. But I got change of plans when my cousin Analyn is looking for a companion to go there.

We arrived at the cemetery around 11AM. I say a prayer for my father and had a good conversation with my mother and Analyn.

After an hour or so, Analyn and I proceed to my grandfather's tomb. Once more, I said a li'l prayer and stayed there. Then suddenly, it rained heavily.

Since my pants is almost soaking wet, we decided to go home. And just when I am saving my running shoes from the flood in every path that we're traversing, there's just NO WAY OUT without having it submerged :(

Nonetheless, I can still say that my All Saints Day is worth it for I had offered my departed love ones a prayer. May God bless their soul! And I hope we all pray for them everyday, not just November 1.

Goldilocks Pagbabago Blog Contest Awarding Ceremony

Last night, CaptainRunner and I attended the Goldilocks Pagbabago Blog Contest Awarding Ceremony at their Shaw Boulevard Branch around 6:30PM. The branch is closed that evening for the event. Upon registering with Trixie of Nuffnang, we were handed Goldilocks DYC (Decorate Your Cake) kits for their DYC contest.

There's also a photo booth at the event. And yes, we posed to have a souvenir.

The ceremony formally started and we were given a sumptuous dinner: laing, pork barbecue, fresh lumpia, and sotanghon.

I don't really eat laing, but that night seem to be different. I love the taste of laing, it has a perfect spicy taste that I love. We were also provided with their newest thirst quencher, the Almond Lychee Popz that has bubbles that pops in my mouth :)

Well, although they got new logo and branding they still got that Filipino taste that we all yearning for.

A quiz bee of sort is also held for all the bloggers that attended and are grouped by table. Unfortunately, our team lost. But it's fun anyhow.

The most awaited announcement began. Honestly, I haven't read the entries of other bloggers. I, myself, even forgot what my entry was all about. Thus, I never really expect to win. I just really want to join and share my thoughts.

After attending the UNILAB ActiveHealth Bloggers Event last Thursday, we did not go straight home but rather enjoyed a 2-hour KTV at Music Match, Ortigas courtesy of BurpRunner: A "Bon Voyage Chad" part II.

We were really not that hungry for we were just fed with dinner by UNILAB. So, we just ordered drinks (Kassy and mine's just iced tea).

On Blogger Events

Recently, I have been attending a number of blogger events. And that is a very satisfying achievement for any blogger, I bet. Well, I am not a serious blogger (or elite blogger if I shall compare to running). I blog simply because I feel like sharing, don’t you? I guess every blogger shares the same sentiment, it all boils down to sharing one’s thoughts; regardless if you blog for a living or for simple pleasure.

Last Friday, I failed to attend a blogger event at Rockwell, Makati City. I am emotionally stressed at that very moment that I need to tame myself – by treating myself with a cup of Dairy Queen (DQ) Chocolate Almond. Yes! Haven’t eaten a cup for so long now – blame the frozen yogurts, LOL!

The most recent blogger event that I had attended was the UNILAB Active Health Bloggers Event that showcases three different activities that promotes healthy lifestyle – Biking, Triathlon, and Running. Slowly, I have been able to familiarize myself with the bloggers (mostly runner-bloggers) that I am meeting in media/press launches. And surprisingly, I was seated beside Ginger of Manila Reviews (the blog where I won my Nokia 5230). Yes, we do take the opportunity to take picture and pose with my Nokia phone. She also handed me her personal business card even though she knows that I’m a lurker of her blog.

I still have to blog about the event, and I feel like I’m cramming for my mind is pretty occupied at this moment. Thanks to this blog for being my shock absorber. Nevertheless, I do want to attend more blogger events in the future.

Bon Voyage Chad

This weekend, a good friend will be leaving in search for greener pasture in foreign land; hence, last night, we had a despedida dinner for him. Nothing really special, we just went someplace he has never been.

So off we go. Our first drop is to buy food. We ordered seafood pasta, sizzling balut, calamares, tempura, and lechon kawali. And dinner followed...

We teased Chad to eat one for he doesn't like it. And yes, we failed.

After making ourselves full, we (Faith and I) washed the dishes; while Chad fool around with the camera.

Before calling it a night, we watched Knight and Day. We also took that opportunity to give Chad a little something before he leaves.

We're Going to Baguio City

Come October 24, 2010, while everyone will claim to be the king and queen of the road in Adidas run; my friends and I will be enjoying the beauty of Baguio City in the Eye Run ‘Coz I Care fun run. I’ll be doing a 16K then. I am praying that God may give me enough strength to finish that distance.

As of the moment, while we were thrilled with the fun run, we were also excited to explore Baguio afterward. For me, the thought of being able to enjoy places at times – far from the stressful city life – would definitely paint smile on my face.

We are currently planning our trip. We’ve decided to just be there two (2) days and a night; hence, October 23-24. We ought to stay at RunningAtom’s place, but with a big group that we had, I guess we need to stay at a transient home somewhere. I suggest that we stay where we had last June 2009. The place is that accessible and we can even cook our own food – budget-wise, it is a good choice.

As for the transportation, we’re thinking if we’d be renting a vehicle, an RV perhaps. But most likely, we’ll just commute via bus. We’ll see. I’m just too excited. *wink*

My Take on RH Bill

House Bill No. 5043 or more popularly known as Reproductive Health (RH) Bill had been plaguing the radio, television, and broadsheets lately. The argument is between the Catholic Bishops' Conference of the Philippines (CBCP) leaders and the state. Obviously, CBCP is against the bill; on the other hand, the government sees it as a means of solving the country's problem about population.

Okay, what I'm about to state here are merely the things that I had absorbed from a not so 100% attention to the news. Please do clarify the thoughts that I had brewed.

I know there's more to RH Bill that just merely providing free contraceptives to the public. However, with what the media is trying to convey (based on my observations), the sole aim of the bill is to promote these contraceptives to eradicate unwanted pregnancies. I have read a number of comments saying that it is a better choice than abortion. These were statements thrown at CBCP.

As for CBCP, they are against the RH Bill for they regard contraceptives as preventing life (which they seem to consider a sin). I don't want to publicly mention my judgment about this one. All I know is that CBCP wanted to just promote the natural methods of family planning.

So there goes the battle between the state and the church.

In my honest opinion, I am not totally against the bill - but I am against the promotion of these contraceptives. Not because it is a way of preventing life; but because it seem to me that rampant use of such will degrade the value of 'the act of making love'. For me, the act is sacred and should not be just a means of gratifying one's self - lust for that matter.

I know each and everyone of us has the higher level of understanding; and that each and everyone of us has the right to choose. But most probably, what the CBCP (or shall I say I alone - let me speak for myself alone) wanted to relay is that, promoting contraceptives will directly promote ~~sex~~ (I am really not that brave enough to mention this one, forgive me) not only to married individuals but to couples who is within reach of such contraceptives. And let it be known that in the Ten Commandments, it is written:

You shall not commit adultery ~ Exodus 20:14

Need I define adultery?

I know I know, I might be jumping into conclusions. But, isn't it possible?

I haven't really read what the RH Bill is all about. And I guess I am not that interested at all. I am just getting ill with the mudslinging that's happening between the church and the state. Anyhow, let me leave you with these Biblical passages.

I guess both sides are right in one way or another. I'm not taking any stand. All I wanted is that, no matter what the result of this argument, may it all be towards the better glory of God.

Ondoy No More: Thunderbird Resorts Run for a Cause

My cousin and I were supposedly running at Camarines Sur on her birthday, September 26, 2010. However, some things are just not meant to happen right? Good thing though, Thunderbird Resorts Run for a Cause dubbed as Ondoy No More was also held at the same day - a race that we joined instead.

We (Irish, RunningAtom, and BurpRunner) took advantage of the free bus ride from Trinoma to Thunderbird Resort that day; hence, we arrived at the race venue that early - an ample time to take pictures before the gun start, hee hee.

At the gun start, I ran (of course, LOL!). And I am surprised with the hills that we need to traverse. Whoah! I even saw that we have to traverse the same dreading hill for the second time (10K race category). How was that?

I got no choice but to walk, like most of the runners do. And like what I intended to do, I allow BurpRunner to run ahead of me for I wanted to run my own pace. On top of it, since I have camera on my pocket, I had some "picture pace" along the route.

Along the route, I happen to converse with a runner. I asked her on how many 10K's she already ran. She told me that her usual distance is 21K; only, she did not expect the route to be "almost all hills". She's a member of the FortStrider Group. She's Ate Rose.

On my way back after the second turn around, I spotted RunningAtom. He handed me hydration, but I just returned it to him. The hydration provided along the race route was that sufficient. I just asked him to pace with me for some ~~kilo~~meters.

Then off I go. I still spotted Ate Rose, but she's quite ahead of me then. I just let her and continue with my own pace. After a while, there I go again with the "killer hill". I planned to make up for my walk break at downhill; and I managed to do so. However, on the last few meters of the race, I felt like my right knee is in pain... again. So I have a brisk walk - run alternately.

On to the finish line, I once more spotted Ate Rose, and I don't know but I have that sudden gush to overtake her; and I did - a healthy competition nonetheless.

I finished the race at 1:08 (my time); but the race result says it's 1:13:36.

Going home? Not yet. We just realized that we haven't eaten lunch and it's 3PM already. So we stop by at Mister Kebab first. And yes, we emptied our plates, hee hee.

Corregidor International Half-Marathon: The Press Launch

I attended the press launch of Corregidor International Half-Marathon (CIHM) yesterday at Sun Cruises Dock, CCP Complex, at the back of Folk Arts Theater. We boarded the MV Spirit of Manila yacht at around 5:30PM to sail through Manila Bay while having the launching of CIHM.

The activity was spearheaded by Edward Kho, the race director. The information that he revealed about the CIHM to be held on December 19, 2010 makes me really wanted to run my very first 21K... or maybe not. Here are some of the information about the race:

The race route, covering a total of 21.0975km, will encompass a demanding combination of paved uphills and down slopes and intermittent segments of dirt trails. He mentioned that the race route would probably comprise of 40% trail and 60% road. However, the road part is not that friendly for you have to run a steep road with an angle of elevation of 60⁰. Most of the attendees (runner bloggers) there had performed a test run and testify the dreadful hills.

On the other hand, the race route is not yet revealed to provide thrill and excitement.
CIHM is aimed to become one of the premiere and much-awaited races in the country. He mentioned that this race will be synonymous to Boston Marathon. The CIHM will be held annually on the 2nd or 3rd weekend of December. Much likely a final major race for the year, a Christmas Party of sort for us runners.
There will be no finish time cut-off for the race. This is to allow the runners to enjoy the scenic view of Corregidor. However, runners should pass the 10K mark on or before 1:45.
All runners who have not crossed the halfway mark within the curfew shall be cleared out from the course by tranvias and will be awarded a 10km Achievement medal. CIHM finishers will be awarded CIHM Medallion (to be presented upon crossing the finish line) and Finisher's Certificate.

Unlike the Boston Marathon which has a qualifying time to participate in the race, CIHM has none. Nonetheless, participants must submit a proof of prior participation in a 21km or a 42km race (should be during the last three months for the former and the last six months for the latter) and/or a doctor's certification of fitness for athletic participation.
Participants must be at least 18 years of age and should not be more than 70 years old on the day of the race.
CIHM, as the name implies, is open to all nationalities.
Race kit includes CIHM backpack containing the race bib with RFID timing chip, race route map, and CIHM runner's shirt. During the race, only the race backpack will be accepted for deposit.
Patterned to Marathon in Rome
This is not just a shirt, this one's dri-fit. You can use it at race day.
There will be male and female top 10 finishers, respectively. There will be no age category winners. All top 10 finishers will receive a certificate of achievement. Top 3 winners from each category will receive cash prizes and medals - 3rd place: P5,000.00 & bronze medal, 2nd place: P8,000.00 & silver medal, and 1st place: P15,000.00 & gold medal.
On top of the medal and cash prize, the male & female champions, to be hailed as "King and/or Queen of The Rock", will be awarded with a replica of the CIHM trophy. Inscribed on the original trophy are the names of the first set of champions and names of succeeding winners in the ensuing of CIHM.
Only 800 participants are allowed to register. For the fee of P2,500 (inclusive of the race kit), participants will also be provided with the transportation via Sun Cruises, Inc.
Gun start of CIHM will be 8AM.

Aside from these race information, other details pertaining to the race include:

Runner's Briefing to be held on December 4 and 11 (1-8PM) at ROX in BHS.
Carbo-Loading Bonfire Party on Saturday evening (6-9PM) before the Sunday race.
Solidarity and Victory Party on the night (6PM onwards) of the race day.

Celebrity endorsers of BWDS will be there to run with the participants as well. I know for sure that regular/seasoned runners are not that "amazed" anymore seeing celebrities run. But for newbies, I bet they still have that enthusiasm to run side-by-side with them. Well, honestly speaking, I joined my first ever fun run because of Chiz Escudero, LOL! BWDS endorsers include Sam Milby, Mika Lagdameo-Martinez, Karylle, Boom Labrusca, Coach Rio De La Cruz (What?! You don't know the man behind the afro? C'mon! Well, once you become addicted to running, you'll know. And you'll run after him for a photo op, hee hee.), Daniel Matsunaga, Fabio Ide, and 40 Brazilian models. It's either you'll run slower to keep pace with them; or you'll run faster to chase them. As for me, I chased after Aga Muhlach in one of my fun runs.
Upon finishing the race, participants will be given special treats by exhibitors.

I Feel It In My Toes

THE INVITATION

Last September 14, 2010, I received an invitation from Vibram Five Fingers (VFF) for their upcoming Media Launch at Paulo's Bootcamp, Metropolitan Club in Rockwell Makati. The next thing I know, I filed a vacation leave for September 22. Suffice to say, I never wanna miss this event.

THE EVENT

RunningAtom and I arrived at the event around 15 minutes earlier than 10AM. After registration, we were allowed to feel being "barefoot" with the VFFs displayed (Classic, Sprint, and KSO) in the lobby.

The VFF launch officially started with Reema Chanco heading the ceremony. Allow me now to share to you what I have learned from the event by quoting their press release.

Barefoot Revolution Hits Philippines

The past years have certainly brought many revolutionary changes to the world. A prime example is the way people use shoes. Guests were able to try first hand barefooting while engaging in these activities.

MY VFF SPRINT

BarefootWear Inc. is that generous for allowing us to go home with our very own VFFs. Here's what RunningAtom and I had.

Here are my first few notes in wearing my VFF.

My feet feel FREE.
I feel short, LOL!
I'm a little bit conscious when people start looking at my VFF. Most thought that I'm just wearing socks.
My first 2.2K run is great. I don't feel any stress on my feet. Although there were parts in the oval where I really feel the rough road. It hurts. But like what the already users of VFF, it would really hurt at the onset. But when your feet get used to it, it would no longer hurt; and you'll be surprised that it had made your running form correct and proper.
My next 2.2K run is not great. My legs somewhat ache. I need to stop for a brisk walk, then run when able. I really felt the pain in my forefoot. Well, that's good. It just means that I'm not a heel striker right?
For the last "drill", I tried to do a run at maximum effort. Hmmm, my problem with running at maximum effort does not lie on my legs; but on my breathing, LOL!
Walking while on the rain feels relaxing on my feet. Only, I thought my feet become wet; only to find out that it is the peppermint spray that I used earlier, hee hee.

Will post some more if I already get used to it. I hope that my VFF would allow me to correct my running form - and soon make me a full pledged MARATHONER!

Singing Till Midnight

Last Tuesday, we had a sudden burst of decision to avail of Red Box's Ladies Night promo at Trinoma. It is a sort of despedida to our officemate, pEDo. Of course, his treat :) Thanks!

It was a great night. Something that I really missed doing together with my cousin, Irish - Singing Till Midnight (or even until the break of dawn). Yeah, my cousin and I love to sing - even we don't have the gift of a golden voice, hee hee.

Anyhow, let me share you the pictures that we had that night that's worth to remember.

I am somewhat shy of singing with my friends for I don't have the talent and they do. I don't know but when it is only Irish and I, I can sing my heart out, LOL! Nonetheless, I still tried. I don't mind them listening to my voice, they're my friends anyway :)

Sir Cris and Jem had to leave early, so there were only four of us left. But that does not make us stop from singing... and taking pictures :)

I don't know how many songs we have sung that night. All I know is that we were there from 7PM till midnight. I queue in a number of my favorite songs such as Way Back Into Love, 21 Guns, I Will Be Here, and Remember Me This Way. Truly, it was a great night.

I Thought It was Just a Fun Run

To date, Biodiversity Run 2010 at University of the Philippines, Los Baños, Laguna (UPLB) is my second out of town runs. The first was the Merrell Adventure Run at Wawa Dam, Montalban. My friends - ChickenLegs, XiaiWalker, RunningStitches, BurpRunner, and RunningAtom - and I headed to Laguna Friday night after office. We stayed at the City of Springs Resort and Hotel.

I am not that accustomed to fall asleep easily in new places. So I have to have something to make me feel sleepy. I played a couple of times with my iTouch and I also had a serious talk with RunningAtom. Suffice to say, I lack sleep at race day.

On our way, we (ChickenLegs and BurpRunner) targeted to finish the 10K race at 1 hour and 30 minutes. At the race venue (UPLB), RunningAtom had advised me that it'll be 80% trail for the 10K race category. I just shrugged my shoulders for I thought that the trail that he's referring to would just be simple rough roads and hills.

The cue for the run had been fired and we're set to go. Run! After a few distance, I am surprised by the trail that RunningAtom had been mentioning. Whew! Slippery rocks that would surely hurt my knees, mud, and all climbs. That's punishment for me. BurpRunner and I were supposedly running side by side; but I fall short of my endurance and I am afraid for my knees. My trail shoes that is supposedly keeping me in balance just slips in most of the rocks that I step on. But as long as BurpRunner is within my sight, I guess I'm still on our target time.

I have seen a number of runners on their way back while I am still going up. There goes Yael of SpongeCola and Karylle who were running the 5K category. There also goes Coach Rio who manages to greet every runner that's calling his attention (He's doing the 21K). I also spotted Scientist Runner who encourages me to run (Thank you!). I also happen to meet a horse along the way that scares me much, LOL! The moment I saw RunningAtom, I told him, "Pedz, ang sabi ko lang gusto ko ng hills; hindi ko sinabing slippery hills." Really, I Thought It was Just a Fun Run; but no, it was a trail run - my second trail run.

After the turn around point, the path is all downhill. As compared to the climb, this is much easier. But balance is something that I hardly get from my shoes that I have to painfully watch every step on my way down.

And finally, there comes the road; but with a little bit of side stitch, I simply jog. On the right turn toward the finish, I, once more, spotted Coach Rio. I am a few meters ahead of him; a very rare chance. Gladly, RunningAtom was there to capture that uncanny moment, hee hee.

C'mon Coach, hurry! :P

The road toward the finish is a climb; and I don't have the energy to finish strong. But gladly, BurpRunner told me that I finished at 1 hour 32 minutes (I forgot my watch). Not bad. I came from a 2 weeks off running.

Another thing that excites us in this event was the post race event (just for us). Since we stayed at a resort, we decided to have a plunge first and test ChickenLeg's underwater camera.
