Mizuno Infinity Race 2010: Can You Beat Your Time?

Mizuno Infinity Race 2010 is supposedly my first 10K race; not until I ran my first official 10K at the UNILAB Run United for Wellness. Nonetheless, the excitement I had back then still remains...

So, what made me choose to run a 10K at Mizuno? It is because of their challenge - to BEAT your time. More often than not, runners were not after beating other runners in the race, rather, we're after having a new personal record (PR) in our previous runs. Right?

Fortunate are the runners who had joined the Mizuno Race last year, for now, they already had a barometer on what time they should beat [not to mention the P50 off from their registration fee]. And I sense that, if you will surpass and beat yourself in this year's race, surely, Mizuno and co-sponsors will be brewing something for you. Whatever it is, I will surely be keeping an eye on it and target to beat my time the following year.

What's in store for me then come that I have no time to beat yet? Well, I would still be running my second 10K and hope to tally a not so embarassing PR. And with that, it will be my basis on how I should train and practice more to race against my biggest competition - MYSELF.

Mizuno Infinity Race - 10K

Come April 11, 2010 at 5:45AM, a trigger will be pulled to signal an event for all running enthusiasts. And I'm sure everyone will run and have their own strategies - start slow to finish fast, galloway, pacing, or giving it all from start to finish. Whatever running technique they would apply, there's only one thing that will run in our minds - to outwit, outsmart, and outrun nobody, but OURSELVES.

After crossing the FINISH LINE, runners [successful or not] will be pampered with generous freebies that Mizuno and partner sponsors have prepared.

What Can We Do?

Did you feel the earthquake yesterday? I do. At first, I thought someone was just playing around my table shaking it. But as my officemate stand up, panic, and blurted that there is an earthquake, I realized that the shaking is an act of God. With that, as instinct, everyone from the company get out of the building until such time that we felt it is already secure to get inside. But beyond the luck that there is neither harm nor tremendous damage brought by that quake, did you think something on “What Can We Do?”

I believe institutions, private, government, and even non-government organizations were all doing something to make everyone aware of what could have been an ‘Inconvenient Truth’. As for me, in my own little way, I can be proud to say that I am doing something for our Earth. In fact, we would be participating in the Earth Hour that will commence tomorrow night. How about you?

Well, I am glad that there were companies that had looked into this matter seriously, like http://www.nviro.com. I had read a few things about them and really looked up to them for their advocacy. Although, of course, they aimed at earning from what they were developing; still, part of their earning process includes a good idea that most of us don’t even know exists.

Basically, they had patented processes in using lime and/or mineral-rich, combustion byproducts to treat, pasteurize, immobilize and convert wastewater sludge and other bio-organic wastes into biomineral agricultural and soil-enrichment products with real market value.

For further information, you can browse their site and read their FAQ page. What matter to me at the moment is their answer to the question, “Is NVS going to cause water pollution from heavy metals?” The answer is an absolute NO.

See, it is nice to know that despite the desire to earn, the company also put great value to Earth. How about us? What Can We Do?

Running Makes Me Happy

I remember when we registered for the PhilStar Celebrity Run, the person to whom we registered asked us, "Ano ba nakukuha ninyo sa takbo?" ("What do you get from running?") Honestly, I was startled with her question, and I don't even remember what did I answer her then.

What do I get from running?

That seem to be a tough question [at least for me at the moment]. I clearly remember how I spent my November and December weekends running either at UP Diliman or at the busy streets of BHS. But even though I have to toil and exert extra effort in waking up as early as 2:30AM, I still do. In fact, I never got the notion of not getting up from bed whenever there is a scheduled run for that weekend.

I also don't mind having to commute from Pulilan, Bulacan just to reach the race venue. Most of the time, it would took me 1.5-2 hours to reach BHS. Under that circumstance, it did not bother me nor make me bid goodbye to running.

And when our addiction in joining races subsided, we only got a single race in January and a couple last February. Nonetheless, we were still running at UP academic oval every Fridays or Saturdays from 7-8 in the evening. Further, we joined the UNILAB running clinic held at the ULTRA every Tuesdays and Thursdays. So, imagine me going home late at night; and still have to go to work the following day. And yes, I do have to go to and from Bulacan to Quezon City. But everything's not big a deal for me. I invested time, money, and effort just for the sake of running.

Come March, I was totally surprised that I already had joined four races [and I could have made it five if I would join a race this coming weekend]. But I don't felt lazy in doing so. In fact, I had been attending [twice now] the adiNation Ortigas group every Wednesdays at 7:30PM. And I find delight to know a number of runners there. It was enjoyable.

So last night, while I am on the course of tallying my fastest 1K (or is it 1.2K?) and trailing behind Lee, my thoughts go rounds and had been reminded of the same question asked of me then. We had 5 laps last night, and I don't mind if sometimes my calves are hurting. I was glad to tally 5:59, 6:31, and 7:20 in my laps. Although it was depressing for it was positive splits. Nonetheless, I was fast, and I somewhat can't believe it. Then we call it a day.

adiNation Ortigas Group - Week 2

I arrived home a few minutes before 11PM. But the energy does not subside yet. And so I surf the net and updated my status in my social media proclaiming...

Running Makes Me HAPPY!

Call it insanity or whatever, but that is what running is making out of me. I just find fulfillment and happiness every time I lace up and run. It just makes me HAPPY.

A Career Move?

Two weeks ago, I had undergone training in Comprehensive Systems Analysis and Design. I must say that I had benefited a lot from the said training. Well, of course I am already an experienced Project Manager, Business Analyst, Systems Analyst, and System Developer. But I accept the fact that my knowledge is still scarce in these specializations. Thus, the said training had re-lived my desire to move a step higher in my career which is in hiatus for the longest period now. Most probably I’m hooked into different extra curricular activities; that’s why I had sidelined my goal in my career.

Anyhow, attending the training, as what I’ve said, had awakened my desire to pursue Systems Analysis. With that, I, together with an office colleague, am planning to design and develop a system from scratch – applying what we have learned from the training. We started our brainstorming last week, and that was a fulfillment in my part.

Right now, we were searching for patterns that we can mimic or serve as reference in our mini-project. Luckily, I had stumbled upon a site, a Web Development Company, which showcases their proficiency in handling system developments. They could serve as our role model in our quest of working with our project.

Although our project is different from Freshout a Custom Web Development Company, their strategies and how they handle projects will surely help us every step of the way. Looking into their recipe - simple, open, quick, and smart - is something indispensable in development.

In the same sense, I can see that the company is really dedicated in their desire to help companies in developing software for their functions. Of course you can have your own website development in-house using Web Design Library; but if your current work force lacks the basic and/or expert knowledge needed; it would be practical to have someone do it for you, like Freshout.

I hope my colleague and I could push through with our mini-project sans the push of our superiors. I maybe ambitious, but I have the confidence that we can finish it, a definite step for a career move.

Globe Run for Home '10: I Love the Flyover

My angel and I alight the cab at Makati Avenue(?). The 21K runners were already on their feet. We find it hard to cross them and put our things at the baggage area. We also spotted Coach Rio at that instant. After a minute or so, we finally got the chance to cross the 21K runners. We hurriedly look for the baggage area and found it right before the starting line. We left our things there and find our way to the 5K runners. We overheard a bouncer throwing sarcastic remarks on runners, which we found very improper. Good thing, a co-bouncer cool our head by saying "Ingat po sa takbo".

Before the gun start for the 5K, I am on hesitations if I will be pushing myself to have a 6min/km speed or simply enjoy the race. But as my angel and I discuss things, we settled on simply enjoying the race and have fun. It's a fun run anyway right?

Gun start.

And so off we go and run for as long as we can. I made my stops at each and every hydration booth put up along the race route. And I have to say that I give Globe-Ayala a thumbs up. There were more than enough Powerade and water for hydration. More so, they are cold. Really thirst quenching.

As we continue to run and enjoy the race, I become excited-slash-challenged when we saw that we actually have to run the flyover. Wow! I just remember the practice run I had back at adiNation Ortigas group. And so, while most of the runners walk while climbing the flyover, we RUN. We also take the rare opportunity to have our pictures taken while we're at the top.

Before going down the flyover

While we were still at the peak of our excitement after crossing the flyover, we were surprised to see that the FINISH line is already a few meters away. But no, I don't sprint nor accelerate, I just continue to run until I cross the FINISH. After which, I immediately send RunningAtom a message, "Whoah! I love the flyover!" signaling him that we're already done with our 5K.

As we cross the FINISH line, we were welcomed by outpouring Powerade and water. Well, they just know what runners need after a challenging route. Afterward, we enjoyed the booths and the program. We also take the chance of taking photos.

BDO Race for Life and RunningAtom's Podium Finish

My cousin is currently employed at BDO. With that, she had registered me, together with RunningAtom and ProgRunner, in their BDO Race for Life. The categories were 3K and 6K. Initially, I would love to run the 6K category; however, knowing that there were a number of categories where winners will be chosen, we decided to join the 3K instead. And we have done a very bright decision.

March 20, 2010 is the race day. We were almost sleepless the night before since it was our group outing at Patio Jose near our office. Nonetheless, we were (or shall I say RunningAtom was) determined to run. He had practiced it daily anyways.

Picture Taking Before Going to MOA

It was a blessing that there were a number of taxis in front of Patio Jose. From there, we rode the cab to our destination.

We arrived at the destination a little early. I immediately grab a free Gardenia, for I am already hungry. While ProgRunner and I were doing our stretching, RunningAtom had his warm-up run. The emcee (or whoever he was) started to discuss the race route. But then, he has remarks that I believe is totally improper. He mentions that in an instance that a marshal had shown us the wrong way, and that we get lost from the route, it is not the marshal's fault. He told each and every runner that it is our fault, for as a runner, we should be responsible in knowing the race route. WOW! I, for one thing, agree that I should be responsible in knowing the race route. But having a marshal showing me the wrong way is another thing. I couldn't believe it! And as a couple of runners were raising hands, probably would like to clarify on the things that he just said, he sarcastically says, "I won't entertain any questions." Duh! I said, "Whatever!"

Anyhow, at the gun start, I run, run, and run. I really planned at running the whole 3K stretch. And I am successful! I crossed the FINISH line at around 20:xx. Unfortunately, I don't know my rank, and I don't know either if the official results will be displayed. I asked RunningAtom how he had performed, he told me that he finished around 13:5x. Wow, that was fast!

When everyone's almost finish, RunningAtom and ProgRunner were already planning at going back to Patio Jose. But I hesitated. I told RunningAtom that we should wait for the announcement of winners for he might be a winner. And he, indeed, was. I immediately reach for his hands and congratulate him for his podium finish. Really, his daily training paid off.

RunningAtom's Prize

Champion, 3K, Male, 21 years old and above, BDO friends

Congratulations [Coach] RunningAtom!

Wooing My Mother for The North Face 100

Warning: Running is Addictive. I believe this is something that has to be advertised when it comes to running. I am a victim. I am addicted; and I just can’t get rehabilitated, LOL! Well, one sign of getting addicted is having four races joined this month. Another one is, owning three running shoes in less than a year. Yeah, that is something! My first running shoes were from Adidas. The second one is my angel’s Christmas gift, a Nike LunarGlide. While the third one is my shoes for trail running, the Adidas Trail 16. Yup, I’m into trail running now too. My first would be this coming April 17. And yes, I had chosen to run over joining our company outing, hee hee. And definitely, I won’t be investing on another shoe if I won’t be running a series of trails.

So what’s with running on the trail? That would be about the thrill, and the feeling of being with nature, and adventure that is more of enjoying rather than enduring. As what The North Face had been challenging runners: “Define your personal limits 6,000++ ft above sea level! Join The North Face 100 in Baguio-Benguet. Visit: www.thenorthface100.ph

WOW! A trail run in the City of Pines, that’s awesome. I have been, let’s say, wooing my mother to have a family outing at Baguio this coming April 24-25 instead of having it at the 4th. Because of the hidden agenda – joining the TNF100. Honestly, I am thrilled! Why? Because of a number of reasons. This is Asia’s 1st Trail Running Ultra Marathon series to Baguio-Benguet. The route will consist of gnarly paths, knife ridges, and treacherous mountain trails which will be traversed along Camp John Hay, the PMA grounds, Mt. Sto. Tomas and Tuba finishing at the Burnham Park. It is like combining running, mountain climbing, and nature tripping.

A runner-blogger friend is already registered at 11K; another acquaintance is registered at TNF100 (Whoa! 100K)! After doing his BDM102, he’s into 100K trail run. And he is encouraging us to join, for definitely, the trails would be something great. That just added spice in my thrill! Plus watching the TVC just makes me want to run on the trails real hard.

So, as I woo my mother, please pray that I could have her sweetest YES! Yihee!

NatGeo Earth Day Run 2010 Redefined My Perspective

Why are you running?

This is the most common question every runner would hear from their non-runner friends. And as for me, I would normally answer, "I run because it is my only form of exercise"; followed with a smile and continue with, "and it brings fulfillment in my being."

It is obvious that running had been a boom in our country now. Before, all I knew was the Milo Marathon. But now, there were race events here and there that you really had a lot of races to choose from. So, how do you choose the race you should join?

This is another question with a variety of answers from runners. For me, I had several considerations when it comes to picking up the race; to wit:
  • Who organizes the race? This is somewhat vital for me to know if the race will be well organized or not. Or most probably, I'll be looking at the reviews of the last year's race event to just know what's in store for me.
  • Where is the venue of the race? I love the route at McKinley. I must say that I am already missing the route there - the challenging uphills. BHS is a great venue. UP Diliman is equally great. I only had two races joined at MOA, and it was fine too. Probably, the proximity of the place is a help in decision making.
  • How much is the registration fee? Of course, the cheaper the registration fee, the better.
  • What are included in the registration? More likely, the nicer the singlet, the better.
So, knowing that National Geographic Channel's Earth Day Run 2010 will be having a technical shirt rather than singlets; we opted to choose to run there instead of the other events.

NatGeo's EDR Technical Shirt

Fortunately, RunningAtom and I were invited to have a chat with NatGeo regarding their Earth Day Run last Friday at Cafe Breton, Level 1, SM Mall of Asia. The 'chat' was presided by Jude Torcuato, Fox International Channels' Territory Director. There were a number of bloggers there, but there were only three of us who normally runs during races.

The chat started a little late, but it is worth it. Basically, Mr. Torcuato discussed his purpose of organizing such event. Earth Day is April 20(?), and so they chose April 18 (the nearest Sunday). And then, a part of his discussion moved me. He particularly accentuated that he does not want participants to focus on the run, itself; but rather on the cause. He would want to encourage the participants NOT to have the feeling of I run because I wanted to have a new PR, I run because I want to win, I run because I want to see the celebrities, BUT to bear in mind and have that fulfilled feeling that you run because you want to support the cause.

Honestly, what he had said redefined my perspective in running. What he just told us is true. Most of the time, we [runners] focuses on our want to run. And then we lose interest on the cause; when in fact, we were doing this for the cause. We were running for we know that it was the least that we can do to help the beneficiaries. Although I had somewhat put this in mind when we choose to join the Yes Run instead of the Ateneo Run; because we wanted to support the beneficiaries. But I guess I am too overwhelmed with my 'running' that I gradually forget everything about it.

The beneficiary of the NatGeo EDR 2010 is the Design Against the Elements, whose main enthusiast [Mr. Illac Angelo Diaz] is also present in the activity. He explained the ambitious goal of DAtE. And I am touched that these private citizens were more concern over the interest of our countrymen rather than those who were in the government, seated in a position that has almost all the resources to do so.

I leave Cafe Breton with an open mind and heart. Truly, Mr. Torcuato had imparted a very significant aspect of running in me. I would always remember what he had told us. He even says that he would be more happy to see new runners out there rather than the seasoned one. For, he really never wanted to have 'running' as the cream of the crop; he wanted to move everyone to participate for the cause and be proud that they had run for the earth.

Who will organize the event? It will be Coach Rio De La Cruz.

Where is the venue of the race? It will be at the SM Mall of Asia grounds.

How much is the registration fee? It will be P500 for 3K, P600 for 5K, and P700 for 10K.

What are included in the registration? A limited edition of the NatGeo EDR technical shirt and race bib. There will be no champion chip, for again, the run is not the focus of the event; it is the cause.

And to add on this list will be:

Who will benefit the race? It would be DAtE. And when the development of the village that is designed to withstand against the elements, we all will be proud in saying, "Part of this structure comes from my sweat."

We should always remember that we were running for the cause; and that the registration fee is not really a registration fee on itself; but our donation to the beneficiary. Let us all keep that in mind runners. Aside from breaking a leg, it is helping towards a unified goal that should matter the most. And I would love to thank Mr. Torcuato for this enlightenment.

With Mr. Diaz and Mr. Torcuato

Let us all participate in the NatGeo EDR 2010!

No, I Will Never Quit: My Pinay In Action 2010 Run

I started running last August 30, 2009. From then, it had become a hobby, a passion, an addiction. I can now relate to the group of runners who were saying that running [for them] is like an oxygen, a very important element of LIFE!

In the genesis of my running [career], I really don't care about my elapsed time [or personal record]. My only goal then was to cross the FINISH line [a feeling that cannot be compared]. But as my running progresses, I had that feeling that I can do more, I can still push myself faster. And that's when I began to assess my speed and set a goal to at least beat my PR; meaning, having a new PR each time I join a race. Most likely, I did. I have been [generally] running faster in the 5K category in each and every race that I join. Until such time that I felt that 5K is no more sufficient; that after crossing the FINISH line makes me wanna go a second dose of it. Thus, I had moved to a longer distance category [the 10K]. Even with aching knees, I still crossed the finish line with glee [and fall in love with it right away].

Undoubtedly, one of the factors that had led me to this addiction is the company of my angel in each and every race that I had joined. Whenever there's a feeling that I can no longer continue, I just hold his hands, and eventually regain the energy that I need to cross the finish line. Cheesy [yeah], but it's true.

However, last Saturday marked a not so ordinary race day for me. It was the Pinay In Action (PIA) 2010 Run. This would be the first time that I would be running in MOA grounds. At the same sense, this will be the first time that I would be running without my angel by my side. But no, I don't treat it as a handicap, but a challenge. And to add some spice, I am aiming at having a new PR, a sub-30 in the 5K race category.

There were only few runners who will be joining the race [only as much as 1,000]. With the target in mind, I am also looking at ranking in the 10% of the runners. Well, I didn't expect seasoned and competitive runners to join the event, that's why. But to my surprise, I had seen several Kenyan runners and athletes [that made me feel nervous even before the gun start].

As the cue for the start of the race had been made, I ran as fast as I could [consuming a lot of energy with my stride]. Only to find myself short of preparation and stretching after more than a kilometer. And so I slowed down. There were no markers in each kilometer, and so I cannot assure myself of running a 6min/km pacing. I just continue running at a not so moderate pace. To my mind I am saying, "PR, PR, PR, Run, Run, Run". But, the feeling of failure comes to my senses when I already felt the fatigue caused by my strong start. My bad. And so I got no other resort but to walk, run, walk. But hey, I'm a runner, and I will NEVER QUIT. And so I ran, I do not let myself be disturbed by other runners who will overtake me strongly only to find them slowing down afterwards [allowing me to catch up].

With less than a kilometer left to run, I had bid goodbye to the sub-30 target. It is already 30min in my watch. So, what am I to do? Walk until the finish or run as fast as I could?

Think.

No, I Will Never Quit. And so I ran [though not as fast as I could for I really had not enough energy to stride]. Nevertheless, I still finished with a bragging time of 0:34:00 ranking 52nd among 360 runners. And yes, my goal of having a sub-30 5K still lives on.

My First 10K at UNILAB's Run United for Wellness

I ran my first 10K yesterday. And I LOVE IT.

That is my status for today. Indeed, I love the 10K distance category now. Would this mean goodbye to 5K? Well, we've been together for 12 races now; and I truly believe it is time to let go. Anyhow, will still be seeing each other at PinayInAction and Globe-Ayala Land Run for Home. After that, I'll surely miss you, LOL!

Okay, enough for such drama. Yesterday marked another milestone in my running career for I have had my very first 10K mileage. I had prepared for such as early as February 11 in the UNILAB's running clinic; but fall short in the last three sessions to give way to the celebration of Purefoods TJ Giants Championship, he he.

I don't know if I am that excited or I am just having another sleeping disorder for I hardly slept the night before the race. I woke up as early as 2AM but have to wait for 20 minutes before finally riding a bus to bring me at GMA Mini Stop.

We arrived at The Fort early. WOW! We're not late, he he. And I finally met Kassy of Runaholic after a couple of misses.

The gun start was shot right on time and so we run, run, and run. As compared to Century Superbods Run, this is way superb. The markers were visible even for my poor eyesight. I promised this time to pace with CaptainRunner. We won't go on tandem running anymore. And so we reached the first 1K mark of the 10K route as fast as 6 minutes. That was a record. We averages at 7-8 minutes per km. But yes, we still have to endure 9 more kms. How was that?

After the 1st km

On the 2nd km mark, we averaged 7min/km. Still on target. Anyhow, our aim was simply to cross the finish line a-okay and be there at a sub-90. However, right after that 2K stretch, I already had felt pain in my stubborn left knee. I still got 8 more km to go, and I surely won't let this pain hinder me from running. And so I ran, with a little caution this time. I would stop by at each and every hydration booth along the race. And of course, walk each time the pain is no longer tolerable.

Hydration

We happen to spot Sen. Pia Cayetano. I would have wanted to have a picture with her along the course. I am already right beside the man beside her. But hesitated and reminded myself of Running Etiquette 101. Only to recognize afterwards that the man beside her was Aga Muhlach. A missed opportunity. But it's okay. He's not Kerby Raymundo anyway, LOL!

And so CaptainRunner and I crossed the turn around point simultaneously. I had this manner of checking my watch in each and every marker I check. Upon finishing 6K, my watch is already at 48 minutes. Hmmm, that was 8min/km. Not bad at all. And so I thought, RunningAtom should be finished by now; otherwise, he again failed at recording a sub-Piolo. And so I received a message that he is already finished; however, LostRunner finished ahead of him.

I asked CaptainRunner to have the 5-1 (5 minutes run, 1 minute walk) rhythm in running. We tried, only to find ourselves walking after 2 minutes. I have to understand him, his last run was the Century Superbods Run; while I still have my aching left knee. But the km markers were really that great. Seeing that we already finished a total of 7K inspired us to keep going, and keep on running. And so we run again [with caution]. Before reaching the 8K mark, ChickenLegs suggested to wrap the bandana handed to us earlier on my knee just to put pressure. And so I did, and it helped [a bit].

My stubborn knees

We run, we walk, we run, we walk, we pose for the Photo Vendo, and we hold hands (*cheesy*) until we reached the finish line. We looked up to see our names flashed and read:

Paulo Marquez 1:23:12.04
Madelin Galvez 1:23:11.09

We made it! It was my first 10K and I never felt dragging myself to the finish line. I fall in love with this race category, LOL!

Finishing my first 10K

And so we proceed at claiming our loot bags and join the fun at the UNILAB's Wellness Village. There were so many stuffs to enjoy. But with the heat penetrating on my skin, we call it off by 8AM. Oh, by the way, RunningAtom and I spotted Sir Rene of JazzRunner and had a photo op with him. See you sir on the 21st!

It [sure] was a great event. I never imagined that my first 10K was that easy! Looking forward at running another 10K this April at Mizuno Infinity Race. Bring it on!

We Are The Champions and We Made History

"We are the champions, my friend.
And we'll keep on fighting, till the end.
We are the champions.
We are the champions.
No time for losers, 'coz we are the champions, of the world."

Yesterday, before going out of the office, I boastfully told Jan that I'll be singing "We Are The Champions" tonight. Well, of course that was an understatement. I still believe in the powers of Coach Tim Cone of coming back to the series. Besides, history has been told that NO ONE had swept a Finals Series of an All Filipino Cup. Nevertheless, I still got out earlier to catch up with the game and the awarding of the Best Player of the Conference (BPC).

I was overly excited for I am Feeling It, that Tonight's Gonna Be A Good Night. If you had religiously watched the series from Game 1, you'll definitely agree with me that Purefoods TJ Giants (PF) won't fall from Alaska Aces.

Despite the fact that I leave the office early, I still was unable to catch up the first few minutes of the game as well as the awarding of the BPC to the deserving James Yap. Anyhow, the PF leads the game by nine (9) big points, making me more excited and wished that the game's already over. And although I have to wait for three more quarters, it was still worth the wait for the balloons dropped from the ceiling to rejoice the sweet sweep victory of PF. An outstanding and history making of 4-0 sweep in an All Filipino Conference Finals.

See? Even Stephanie was very happy holding that PF flag while I am wearing my Kerby Raymundo Jersey.

Game 4 was a very rewarding game for PF and the fans. Allow me to cite almost all of them here in my post.

Don Allado. The ever funny Don Allado contributed much in destructing Aces' ball handlers and make them turn the ball over. Aside from that, he stands as one of the cheer leaders making the PF crowd more lively and more noisy. Plus, I love the way he gargles San Mig Light in the dug out during their interview, LOL!

Jondan Salvador. I have never seen Jondan Salvador played that much in the eliminations, Quarter Finals, or Semi Finals. But his game last night shows an excellent player in him. His block, his defense, and his perimiter shot - all deserves cheers from the crowd.

Paul Artadi. The main cheerleader in the hardcourt. I can see him rejoice each time a teammate buy a bucket. He is the first one who'll clap his hands and jump for joy. But he also performs brilliantly in the hardcourt. A great reliever for Roger Yap.

KG Canaleta. How can I forget your stunning dunk in Game 3? Never would I forget that. Over and over, I would remember how you awaken my blood and holding on to the hope of winning Game 3. When in the line up there seem to be no offensive player for PF, you surprisingly make the crucial baskets to rally.

PJ Simon. A super-sub in you had been a great factor in relieving Roger Yap and James Yap. Not only that, you had given your all, more than 100%. You never minded your knee injury.

Rafi Reavis. Honestly, I questionned your addition to the group. I say "What? Reavis in exchange of Rico Villanueva?" But then you made me eat my words. You had played excellent basketball atop your limelight performance back in your former team. And yes, I too love your dunks that makes me say "Whoah!"

Marc Pingris. Are you the next Cris Bolado? You were definitely lucky to have won the Fiesta Conference last season and won the All Filipino this conference. But along with that lucky charm you had within yourself is your outstanding defense. You had made me worry when you committed your 5th personal foul. But like Kerby Raymundo, you definitely know how to keep yourself from fouling out. You even gained an offensive foul out of Willie Miller. How was that? I do thought that you will be reigned as the Finals MVP. But I guess personal fame is nothing as compared to team's glory, right?

Rico Maierhofer. Another lucky man, indeed. It was your first conference that already brought you this championship. I remember how you hoped to win a championship with Purefoods. God is so kind that He had blessed you your wish right away. I would never want to see you wearing jersey other than PF. I so love how you and Paul Artadi bumped for a cheer.

James Yap. Last night for you was a dream you surely never wanted to wake up. You were hailed as the BPC, your team swept the number one seeder of the conference to bag the championship crown, and you were awarded as the Finals MVP. You deserve it. You had the moves that always make me eye-popped and jaw-dropped. And surely, you still had a million moves to show.

Roger Yap. From the genesis of my being a PF fan, you already caught my eyes. You were the only player who never loses hope and who played professionally up to the last seconds of the game. I missed you when you had to cure an injury. But you do looked better wearing casual attire rather than your jersey, hee hee. You had been playing nine years of professional basketball and you had lifted your career one level higher with your semi-finals' three straight Best Player of the Game citation. Though you have not been that great in the Finals series, I still have my eyes on you. You did great last game!

Kerby Raymundo. You were the man in Game 2. I had imagined the trash talk to be thrown at you when you missed that free throw. But hey, I had that confidence on you, you were [to me] a 100% free throw shooter. And the way you intentionally missed your second free throw is a very intelligent move from a veteran. In Game 3, you have not gained a field goal. But your only field goal is enough to make it happen. And I really love the way you shout your heart out after that basket. Game 4, you are the best. I remember the commentators had been applausing your Kerby moves. And your two 3-point trey elevates the team. Who could have thought that someone as big as you can have that ringless 3-point basket? What I love about your moves is your turn around fadeaway. It's as if you had mastered that move that no one can ever stopped you. I do wanted you to have that Finals MVP plaque, but it seems like the press has something against you. Well, the commentators were all praises on you anyway. And I would still proudly wear my Kerby Raymundo jersey, for I Love KR#5. Oh, another thing that made me love you is the way you say praises and thanks to the Lord in each and every interview you had. And you will always cite the Lord on top of everyone else. You maybe the hot-headed team captain most PBA fans knew, but for me, you are someone I look up to [not because you are tall], but because of your humility and your love of God and your family.

And of course, the last in my list, but definitely not the least...

Coach Ryan Gregorio. Many doubted your talent and tactics that you could win another championship. I have read some who even wanted to have you resigned. You proved them wrong. And I am always with you all along. Not only because you are good looking, but you are an intelligent coach. And yes, you made history - the only PF coach who won two All Filipino Cup. I can feel your emotions as you hug each and every PF roster. And I love your statement,

"Chapter closed, destination reached, mission accomplished. Now we can celebrate."

Hope I could be part of your victory party together with your other rosters Rommel Aducul, Jonathan Fernandez, and Chris Timberlake.

Congratulations Purefoods TJ Giants!!!
We Are The Champions and We Made History last night!

I Want to Bring Back My Anonymity

The moment I take everything slow, I find peace and contentment here in my blog. I am seeing the real me each time I read my posts [and not haunted by paid posts]. I haven't earned that much since then, but I am still happy sharing my thoughts here. I guess that's just how this blog should serve me - an online journal of my thoughts.

But just now, I am troubled on what to share. Probably there's just things that I wanted to write here, but never wanted others to read. This blog is already branded. And this has been read by a number of friends close to my heart. Although I do want them to know my thoughts, there were just things that I wanted to pour out yet maintain my anonymity.

I tried to trackback and read some of my posts two years ago and find a different MinnieRunner there. Those were the times when I got the chance to blurt out my thoughts without inhibitions that someone might be able to read my post and confront me. It was then that I realized that being anonymous is really what my blog is all about. The title My Unrevealed Thoughts clearly suggests that this blog will contain the things that runs in my mind which I prefer to share to everyone except those who know me.

Did you get my point?

Well, you see, the thoughts that I can reveal and easily speak about is an open book. May it be on how much I love CaptainRunner, how I am into running now, or how much I wanted Purefoods to bag the Championship Crown with Kerby Raymundo to be hailed as the Finals MVP. So, most probably, I should rename this blog as My Revealed Thoughts.

But then again, it would seem useless for this blog should serve me the purpose of being able to blurt out the things that I just cannot reveal - My Unrevealed Thoughts. However, I just cannot easily post an entry about those unrevealed thoughts because I am no longer anonymous. Or to make it easier to comprehend, I am not that brave enough to reveal my thoughts to everyone.

Sigh. For now, I just Want to Bring Back My Anonymity.

Kerby Raymundo's Only Basket Make It Happen

Finally, after four (4) long months I had stepped once more inside the Big Dome to witness the Game 3 duel between Purefoods TJ Giants (PF) and Alaska Aces in their Best-of-Seven Finals for the 2009-2010 Philippine Cup. Originally, I should be having the company of my high school bestfriend, Susie (Alaska fan ever since). However, due to unavoidable circumstance, she won't be able to make it. Hence, we (my angel and I) resorted at having the company of his sisters.

We were at the Aranta Coliseum as early as 4PM. We only got the tickets for the Upper A Section (free seating). With that, we comfortably positioned ourselves in that section as early as 4PM to secure ourselves a seat. We were at first worried for we might be seating around Alaska fans, and it would be dead hard to cheer for PF come game time. Fortunately, we were all PF fans.

A game of the Philippine Women Basketball League (PWBL) started the Sunday action [particularly, FEU vs ASCOF]. As the game near its end, the crowd began making noise [cheering for the underdogs - ASCOF]. The game finished at around 5:30PM; while the big game will start by 6PM.

As the PF lineup entered the Big Dome, you'll get deaf with the noise. And it even become louder as James Yap entered the hardcourt. As for me, I can't contain my excitement. Although I am already having the thoughts that PF will not win that night, I still have high hopes that they will. And I bet KG Canaleta is making that feeling intense with his slam dunk warm ups.

KG for a one-handed slam

Another one

And another one

And now for a two-handed

As the buzzer signaled the start of Game 3, we were bombarded by the noise being made by the Alaska band [and a few fans]. They scored the first basket. But PF rallied immediately to gain their very first lead [4-2]. And after that, Alaska commanded the ballgame throughout.

First Lead [4-2]

Well, the difference between watching the game live and watching the game on TV is that, you get to cheer loudly for your team; and you get to stand for excitement even if your team is trailing with as much as 12 points. You definitely won't succumb yourself with that 12 point deficit [knowing that PF can rally from such in the most impossible way]. And that is how we [PF fans] rejoice in each and every basket the team could have.

At the end of the First Half, 44-36 in favor of Alaska

I particularly want to have a special mention to referee #67 who seem to need another seminar about PBA's rules after what happened last night. While PF is already on its momentum of coming back with only just 4 points deficit; he blindly saw Peter June Simon signaling a time out right in front of him. It resulted to Simon's gamble for the ball, committing a backcourt error. Of course, all you will hear is the crowd saying boo boos [and I am one of 'em]. The other fault that he committed was when he called for an offensive foul against Roger Yap when in fact he [R. Yap] was in the no charging zone (Thanks to my angel for educating me with basketball 101's). Good thing, their main officiating referee corrected him and called a blocking foul on the opponent instead. I believe he is also the culprit in calling a technical foul for second motion on Kerby Raymundo against Reynel Hugnatan when in fact, it was Hugnatan who pushed Raymundo. Anyhow, LA Tenorio to the rescue was pushed in return by Raymundo (clap clap clap).

Entering the payoff period with 67-61, still, in favor of Alaska

Going back to the game, I specifically like how Canaleta brings back the hopes to all PF fans inside the Araneta. His fade away 3-point shot brings back PF to only 3 point deficit (I surmise). Not to mention his in-your-face dunk similar to that of Michael Jordan's that creates the sound of amazement among the fans. In addition, with how J. Yap inches his way in every field goal, it made me signal my angel to bring out his J. Yap jersey. Well, I told him that we will only be bringing them out once we feel or sense a smell of victory. And the sweet scent is already on our senses. Most importantly, when Canaleta clinched another 3 pointer [assist by Raymundo] in less than 2-minutes left in the payoff period, he tied the game at 77. Each and every PF fan were on their feet jumping and cheering against the few Alaska fans. I am even delighted on how Joaqui Trillo is encouraging the Alaska fans to make some noise. In return, Don Allado motioned for a response cheer from us. And of course, PF fans makes the loudest noise.

Allado as security, LOL!

Back at PF side, Raymundo is making his post up against Alaska defenders. I know it was his off night. I am even trying to shout to him to pass the ball to a free teammate. But his course to the basket gained him, finally, a field goal. It is the only basket that Raymundo had the entire night; and it was enough to taste their second driver seat 79-77 (Their first was back in the first quarter at 4-2) with only 19 seconds remaining. Definitely, Kerby Raymundo's Only Basket Make It Happen. With that, I bring out my Raymundo jersey and wear it proudly. And I can feel Raymundo's emotion pouring as if already bagging the Championship Crown. (I hope I could find a video clip of that.)

Lastly, the tight defense of PF in the last 19 seconds drowned Alaska in the series with 3 to nothing. Kudos to Marc Pingris for his excellent defensive stops on Tenorio and Willie Miller (There's no Miller Time last night. Hooray!).

Canaleta, Best Player of the Game

3-0

After the ballgame, we waited for Alvin Patrimonio for autograph and photo op.

Then, we call it a day.

3-0. No one [from PBA and NBA] has ever come back from such standing in a Best-of-Seven series. No one yet. And I hope no one could soon. Will the balloons fall to rejoice PF's Championship this Wednesday? I fervently hope so.
