Running Makes Me Happy

I remember when we registered for the PhilStar Celebrity Run, the person to whom we registered asked us, "Ano ba nakukuha ninyo sa takbo?" ("What do you get from running?") Honestly, I was startled with her question, and I don't even remember what did I answer her then.

What do I get from running?

That seem to be a tough question [at least for me at the moment]. I clearly remember how I spent my November and December weekends running either at UP Diliman or at the busy streets of BHS. But even though I have to toil and exert extra effort in waking up as early as 2:30AM, I still do. In fact, I never got the notion of not getting up from bed whenever there is a scheduled run for that weekend.

I also don't mind having to commute from Pulilan, Bulacan just to reach the race venue. Most of the time, it would took me 1.5-2 hours to reach BHS. Under that circumstance, it did not bother me nor make me bid goodbye to running.

And when our addiction in joining races subsided, we only got a single race in January and a couple last February. Nonetheless, we were still running at UP academic oval every Fridays or Saturdays from 7-8 in the evening. Further, we joined the UNILAB running clinic held at the ULTRA every Tuesdays and Thursdays. So, imagine me going home late at night; and still have to go to work the following day. And yes, I do have to go to and from Bulacan to Quezon City. But everything's not big a deal for me. I invested time, money, and effort just for the sake of running.

Come March, I was totally surprised that I already had joined four races [and I could have made it five if I would join a race this coming weekend]. But I don't felt lazy in doing so. In fact, I had been attending [twice now] the adiNation Ortigas group every Wednesdays at 7:30PM. And I find delight to know a number of runners there. It was enjoyable.

So last night, while I am on the course of tallying my fastest 1K (or is it 1.2K?) and trailing behind Lee, my thoughts go rounds and had been reminded of the same question asked of me then. We had 5 laps last night, and I don't mind if sometimes my calves are hurting. I was glad to tally 5:59, 6:31, and 7:20 in my laps. Although it was depressing for it was positive splits. Nonetheless, I was fast, and I somewhat can't believe it. Then we call it a day.

I arrived home a few minutes before 11PM. But the energy does not subside yet. And so I surf the net and updated my status in my social media proclaiming...

Running Makes Me HAPPY!

Call it insanity or whatever, but that is what running is making out of me. I just find fulfillment and happiness every time I lace up and run. It just makes me HAPPY.
