Touch a blogger: Tie a yellow ribbon for Cory Aquino!

I don't know much about politics. But I do know that the color yellow had been used to symbolize Pres. Corazon Aquino's victory over dictatorship; thus, gaining freedom and democracy. Now that she's life is on the line, I am joining the Tie a Yellow Ribbon Prayer Campaign for her immediate recovery. The rule is to blog about it. Since I don't have any to share about her political career, I just searched the net on what yellow ribbon signifies and find this from Wikipedia:

A yellow ribbon is a symbol with various meanings, mostly associated with those waiting for the return of a loved one or of military troops who are temporarily unable to come home. It is also sometimes used at county and state fairs in the United States, where it indicates a fourth-place finish in a contest. Recently, it has been used to symbolize support for the International Suicide Prevention Program and the Black Saturday bushfires in Victoria, Australia. It has also been used recently to raise awareness of Testicular Cancer, Endometriosis, and Madeleine McCann.

It as well specifically state it's meaning for our country, the Philippines:

In the Philippines, the yellow ribbon was used in the 1980's during Martial Law as a homecoming symbol of opposition Senator Benigno Aquino, Jr. Senator Aquino was forced to go into exile in the United States for treatment of a heart problem; this was due to suspicions that doctors at the Philippine Heart Center might have been in duplicity with then dictator President Ferdinand E. Marcos. Upon his scheduled return to the Philippines, yellow ribbons were tied along the street and roads of Metro Manila by his supporters in order to welcome his return back to the country; instead, Senator Aquino was assassinated. This symbolism was inspired by the song Tie a Yellow Ribbon Round the Ole Oak Tree by Tony Orlando and Dawn.

Recently, the yellow ribbon is again being used as a symbol of support to the ailing former President Corazon "Cory" C. Aquino, the widow of Senator Aquino. In continuing her husband's struggle, she adopted the yellow ribbon and the colour as a whole for her campaign. Cory Aquino was successful in toppling the Marcos regime via the EDSA People Power Revolution of 1986. Mrs. Aquino has recently been suffering from advanced stage colon cancer and once more the yellow ribbon is being used by her family, friends, and allies as a sign of solidarity with the former president.
And with this, I am touching a blogger. As for my yellow ribbon, I grabbed the one made by my blogger friend Jhong:

I am encouraging my co-bloggers to join this prayer campaign. It could serve as a sign of our gratitude to Pres. Aquino for serving our mother land.

  1. Create an entry entitled: “Touch a blogger: Tie a yellow ribbon for Cory Aquino!“. A link to this original entry will be appreciated, but is not required.(barriosiete.com)
  2. Post a yellow ribbon in your blog for President Cory Aquino. Whatever form of yellow ribbon that your creative imagination can come up with.
  3. Invite other bloggers to tie a yellow ribbon for Cory.

Pres.Cory is indeed an amazing woman, a plain housewife pin down an entire Marcos Empire! She even have united the entire country by her prayers and by her advocacy to victory over dictatorship during the Marcos Regime. She is indeed an ICON of DEMOCRACY.

Thanks again Madz, and get well soon!

Not being negative here but prayers won't make her well... No matter how much healing masses will be held for her, it won't work!

Kung gusto nilang gumaling si Mrs. Aquino, they should go to their rooms, turn down the lights, and pray silently...

Even you guys, na nagpopost ng yellow ribbons sa blogs nila, that won't work... Say silent prayers for her... No offense to anyone but as the bible says, prayers made in public won't be answered...

Kurog, just wanted to remind another verse from the Bible:

"Sapagkat kung saan nagkakatipon ang dalawa o tatlo sa aking pangalan, ay naroon ako sa gitna nila." Mateo 18:20.

:) No matter how we pray, for as long as we are heartfully praying, God will answer our prayers.
